Magnesia is one of the most important raw materials for refractory materials, used to manufacture various magnesia bricks, magnesia aluminum bricks, ramming materials, furnace repair materials, etc. Containing a lot of impurities, used for laying the bottom of steelmaking furnaces, etc.
Magnesia sand produced by using high-temperature equipment such as vertical kilns and rotary kilns for one-time or two-step calcination processes, using natural magnesite as raw material, is called sintered magnesia sand. The electric fused magnesia sand is formed by melting magnesite and other raw materials in a Dc Electric Arc Furnace and cooling them to a molten state. The product made by extracting magnesium oxide from seawater is called seawater magnesia sand.
Electric fused magnesia is made by melting selected special grade natural magnesite or high-purity lightly burned magnesium particles in a DC Electric Arc Furnace. This product has high purity, large crystalline particles, dense structure, strong slag resistance, good thermal shock stability, and is an excellent high-temperature electrical insulation material. It is also an important raw material for producing high-end magnesium bricks, magnesium carbon bricks, and amorphous refractory materials.
The main raw material for producing electric fused magnesia is magnesite ore, and the current production process is divided into two forms: one-step melting method and two-step calcination melting method. The one-step melting method is formed by melting natural magnesite ore or purified magnesite concentrate powder in a DC electric Arc Furnace at high temperatures above 2800 ℃; The two-step calcination and melting method is to lightly calcine magnesia ore or purified magnesia concentrate powder in a vertical or rotary kiln at around 1000 ℃ to obtain lightly calcined magnesia powder. After fine grinding, pressing, and finally high-temperature melting in a DC electric arc furnace to produce fused magnesia.

Equipment characteristics

1.The power consumption is 10%~15% less than that of AC furnace.


2.The consumption of graphite electrode is 40% less than that of AC furnace.


3.Compared with AC furnace, it eliminates the investment of reactive power compensation device.


4.The noise level is 10~20 dB lower than AC furnace.


5.In the smelting process, metal ions in the melt will be concentrated around the negative electrode due to electrolysis, so as to improve the yield and purity of products, which is more conducive to the enrichment of precious metals and other high-value metals.


6.The current direction and electromagnetic field direction of DC furnace remain unchanged. Driven by the magnetic field, the molten slurry circulates in one direction all the time, forming electromagnetic stirring, so that the material melts without dead corners, the product quality is high, and the yield is high.


7.When an accident occurs in the smelting process and a power failure occurs for a period of time, an insulating hard shell will be formed on the surface of the molten liquid. 

Facing this situation, the double electrode DC furnace can start arc smelting again by adding arc striking materials such as coke at the bottom of the electrode.
