Copper smelting DC Submerged Arc Furnace is an equipment that uses electricity as energy to convert copper oxide in copper ore into copper metal. Its working principle is to combine copper oxide in copper ore with reducing agents through the heat energy provided by the arc, and undergo a reduction reaction to generate metallic copper.
Copper smelting DC Submerged Arc Furnace usually consist of the following main components:
1. Furnace body: The furnace body is usually composed of refractory materials to withstand high temperatures and chemical corrosion.
2. Electrodes: There are two electrodes in an electric furnace, one is the anode and the other is the cathode. The current passes through the copper ore between the anode and cathode, producing a chemical reaction.
3. Power supply system: The electric furnace requires external power supply to provide the required current.
4. Cooling system: The high temperature in the electric furnace needs to be dissipated through the cooling system to maintain the normal working temperature of the furnace body and power supply.
The working process of copper smelting electric furnace generally includes the following steps:
1. Prepare copper ore: Crush and grind the copper ore to facilitate the passage of electricity.
2. Filling furnace material: Crushed copper ore is loaded into the electric furnace to form a certain layer of furnace material.
3. Electric heating: Connect the electric furnace to the power system and apply electric heating. The current passes through the burden layer, reducing copper ions in the copper ore to metallic copper.
4. Collecting copper metal: After a certain period of heating, the metal copper will solidify at the bottom of the furnace and can be collected and extracted in a suitable way.

Equipment characteristics

1.The power consumption is 10%~15% less than that of AC furnace.

 

2.The consumption of graphite electrode is 40% less than that of AC furnace.

 

3.Compared with AC furnace, it eliminates the investment of reactive power compensation device.

 

4.The noise level is 10~20 dB lower than AC furnace.

 

5.In the smelting process, metal ions in the melt will be concentrated around the negative electrode due to electrolysis, so as to improve the yield and purity of products, which is more conducive to the enrichment of precious metals and other high-value metals.


6.The current direction and electromagnetic field direction of DC furnace remain unchanged. Driven by the magnetic field, the molten slurry circulates in one direction all the time, forming electromagnetic stirring, so that the material melts without dead corners, the product quality is high, and the yield is high.


7.When an accident occurs in the smelting process and a power failure occurs for a period of time, an insulating hard shell will be formed on the surface of the molten liquid. 

Facing this situation, the double electrode DC furnace can start arc smelting again by adding arc striking materials such as coke at the bottom of the electrode.
