Silicon chromium alloy is a reducing agent for the production of medium, low, and micro carbon ferrochrome by electro silicon thermal method.
The production of silicon chromium alloy can be divided into two types: slag method and slag free method. Both slag method and slag free method are smelted in a DC Submerged Arc Furnace. The requirements for equipment are basically consistent with those for smelting ferrosilicon.
However, when producing silicon chromium alloy using slag method, due to the good conductivity of the slag, the electrode is not easy to deeply insert, so a slightly larger electrode center diameter than the production of silicon iron is generally selected. The slag method for producing silicon chromium alloy uses carbon to simultaneously reduce chromium trioxide in chromite and silicon dioxide in silica, so this method is also called a one-step method.
When producing silicon chromium alloy using slag free method, carbon is used to reduce silica, and the generated silicon destroys the load carbides in high carbon chromium iron, eliminating the carbon in the alloy and obtaining silicon chromium alloy. This method of smelting silicon chromium alloy requires two processes: smelting high carbon ferrochrome and silicon chromium alloy, so it is also called two-step method.

Equipment characteristics

1.The power consumption is 10%~15% less than that of AC furnace.


2.The consumption of graphite electrode is 40% less than that of AC furnace.


3.Compared with AC furnace, it eliminates the investment of reactive power compensation device.


4.The noise level is 10~20 dB lower than AC furnace.


5.In the smelting process, metal ions in the melt will be concentrated around the negative electrode due to electrolysis, so as to improve the yield and purity of products, which is more conducive to the enrichment of precious metals and other high-value metals.


6.The current direction and electromagnetic field direction of DC furnace remain unchanged. Driven by the magnetic field, the molten slurry circulates in one direction all the time, forming electromagnetic stirring, so that the material melts without dead corners, the product quality is high, and the yield is high.


7.When an accident occurs in the smelting process and a power failure occurs for a period of time, an insulating hard shell will be formed on the surface of the molten liquid. 

Facing this situation, the double electrode DC furnace can start arc smelting again by adding arc striking materials such as coke at the bottom of the electrode.
